Objectives

By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • To understand the distinctions in breast pump coverage under Medi-Cal fee-for-service (FFS) and Medi-Cal managed care plans.

  • To equip staff with knowledge about the different types of breast pumps and how to guid families in selecting the option that best meets their individual needs.

  • To provide accurate, step-by-step guidance to staff on how to obtain a breast pump through Medi-Cal, including verifying benefits, obtaining a prescription, and navigating the DME process.

  • To identify and share resources for Medi-Cal contracted DME providers that supply breast pumps, ensuring timely and equitable access for families.

1.5 L-CERPS & 1.0 Contact Hours

  • RN: BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. This course offers 1.0 contact hours of continuing education. BreastfeedLA’s provider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate for a period of four years.

  • IBCLC: BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners #CLT113-36. 1.5 L- CERPs will be awarded.

  • RDs & OTs: Maintain a copy of the agenda and certificate for CPEs for Professional Development Portfolio.
